Program Description:

A class for women, designed by women! Ensure your safety and confidence in the shop with our Woodworking Machine Safety Certification course.

Learn all about the most common power tools and make your own tool caddy! Working with woodworking machines can be dangerous without proper training, and our course provides the essential knowledge and hands-on instruction needed to operate tools safely and effectively. Following the nationally recognized Woodwork Career Alliance (WCA) skill standards curriculum, this course ensures that participants are trained to industry standards in woodworking safety.

Students will receive one-on-one support from an experienced instructor as they learn the safe and correct operation of a variety of woodworking machines. In addition to hands-on practice, students will take home a comprehensive safety manual as a future reference guide.

Upon successful completion of the safety exam, participants will receive an official safety certification by mail and will have the opportunity to build and take home a tool caddy, reinforcing their newly acquired skills.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn proper techniques for safely operating key woodworking machines, including table saw, jointer, planer, band saw, miter saw, router table, drill press, belt sander, and power drills

  • Gain hands-on experience in machine operation under the supervision of a skilled instructor

  • Learn best practices for injury prevention, shop etiquette, and safety protocols

  • Take home a safety manual for continued learning and reference

  • Receive an official certification by mail upon completion of the safety exam

  • Build and take home a tool caddy, applying the skills learned during training
