Welcome to the Woodworking Institute
A Global Destination for Craftsmanship, Creativity, and Community
The Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute (SBWI) is a woodworking school and accredited trade school in Adrian, Michigan, where students develop the skills to design furniture, build with wood, and preserve historic craftsmanship. Through hands-on education, we connect traditional techniques with contemporary practice, preparing students for meaningful work in the skilled trades.
Our Furniture Design program combines fine woodworking, creative design, and practical business training. Beginning in fall 2027, new programs in Timber Framing and Architectural Carpentry & Preservation will expand those opportunities into building timber structures, architectural woodwork, and historic restoration.
