Colonial Williamsburg's Annual Working Wood in the 18th Century Conference - Scholarship Application
The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is pleased to offer a limited number of scholarships for students to attend the 28th Annual Working Wood in the 18th Century Conference. This year's program, "United We Sit: Exploring Early American Chairs" will be held in person & virtually January 22-25, 2026.
Through these scholarships, we strive to inspire those who are passionate and committed to their goals as they learn new techniques from 18th-century traditions.
In-person scholarships cover registration costs to attend the main Working Wood program, receptions and dinner, access to the streaming platform to view presentations until March 31, 2026, and a historic area ticket voucher for a 7-day visit to Colonial Williamsburg to be redeemed by December 31, 2026. In-person scholarships may include accommodations, but do not include travel.
* Note: In-Person scholarship recipients will have the option to register for Pre-Conference activities, and an option to register a guest for Companion Programs. Any of these additional items are an additional fee, not covered by the scholarship.
Virtual scholarships cover registration costs to all Working Wood virtual presentations, available until March 31, 2026, as well as a historic area ticket voucher for a 7-day visit to Colonial Williamsburg to be redeemed by December 31, 2026.
Eligible Applicants should be:
Currently enrolled in a woodworking curriculum of an accredited school or having graduated with a woodworking degree within the past 5 years.
Emerging museum professionals in the woodworking, crafts & trades field.
*Preferred Candidates will have recent or current experience with paid or volunteer museum work in related field.
Scholarship applicants should have the following documents available to upload during the registration process in order to be considered.

Statement of how attendance at Working Wood in the 18th Century will benefit your studies/work (approx. 250 words).

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS NOVEMBER 1, 2026.
Receipt of a scholarship will automatically register you for the Working Wood in the 18th Century Conference.
All applicants will be notified via e-mail whether or not their scholarship application has been accepted.
Scholarships will be rewarded by November 15, 2026.
We regret that previous recipients are not eligible.
