Finished Gunwales

Like I hoped, today I was able to finish fastening all of the pieces of cherry that make up the gunwales. Everything is glued and screwed and I'll leave the boat alone and go enjoy the weather outside.

We got hammered last night with 6" of snow followed by sleet followed by rain followed by temps in the 20's. It isn't easy shoveling but we've got one of those blue bird days with bright sunshine that we don't often get in this part of the world. I almost don't mind shoveling. Almost.

"Canoe Mike" Thomsen

Michael Thomsen of Tecumseh, Michigan built his first canoe because he wanted a small, easily handled boat to fish from. It turned out so nice he knew he had to build more. “Canoe Mike” has now retired from his day job as an electrician and devotes all his time to building boats and paddles. He makes wooden canoes using the wood strip and fiberglass method. He buys the caned seats and brass hardware for the boats, but hand makes all the other components of the boat. He also makes wooden canoe and kayak paddles.
