This is Not a Drill
This is not a drill, I repeat this is not a drill (that's for you Chuck). There won't be any more fitting and adjusting on the pieces that make up the gunwales. The inner pieces are glued and screwed where they are going to stay.
I mixed a batch of resin and painted it on the hull and the pieces of wood that go on the inside of the hull. Then I mixed a thickener and some dark brown coloring with what was left of the resin and painted that on the hull and the wood. The thickened resin serves to fill any voids so there aren't any holidays in the finished glue joint.
I'll let this sit until tomorrow morning and then decide if I'm going to glue and screw the two other pieces of wood onto the hull. I've got to cut two triangular pieces of maple for the decks which will go in each end. I've got to consult my notes, I can't remember if it is easier to get them in place with the outer parts of the gunwale installed or not.
If there is an advantage to having your memory slip it might be in having one of those "Oh, that's where I put that" moments. This isn't exactly like that but it's close. Rummaging through a pile of scrap wood I came across a drop dead gorgeous piece of tiger maple burl. I know where I bought it but I don't know when and I had forgotten that I had it. The piece is just big enough to make both of the decks for this boat. I'm excited about how pretty they are going to look.
