Seasonal Artisan Builder

Holland, Michigan

At ODC Network, we don’t just build playgrounds; we build legacy spaces. As an Artisan Builder, you will use raw timber, traditional log-smithing techniques, and modern safety precision to make nature-inspired "playscapes" come to life. Our projects focus on reconnecting children with the outdoors through organic shapes, climbing boulders, and custom-hewn timber. The Seasonal Artisan Builder will be responsible for supporting the mission of the ODC Network through these activities in addition to being a positive representative of the organization in the community.

We're looking for team members who love working with their hands and natural components to build beautiful, fun spaces seasonally from March - November. Start and end dates can be flexible for prospective candidates and year-over-year opportunities are available.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Seasonal Artisan Builder will be responsible for supporting the ODC Network through the execution of construction and improvement projects for playscapes, buildings, and grounds. Specifically, this position will be responsible for:

  • Log Smithing: Execute traditional joinery, log peeling, and timber framing using hand tools (slicks, drawknives) and precision power tools.

  • Creative Installation: Transform CAD designs into 3D realities, ensuring "play-value" is maximized while maintaining structural integrity.

  • Prioritizing Safety: Build to ASTM and CPSC standards. You are the frontline protector of every child who climbs your work.

  • Landscape & Site Work: Assist with installing all aspects of landscapes and hardscapes for Natural Playscape projects.

  • Crew Collaboration: Work with the Playscape crew to finish logs and install custom equipment in a professional, timely manner.

Desired Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience in carpentry, timber framing, or custom woodworking.

  • Enjoyment of working in the shifting Michigan weather

  • Skilled with chainsaws, slicks, and general carpentry tools (skill/miter/table saws).

  • Experience with tractors, utility vehicles, and heavy equipment operation preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; must pass a background check and hold a valid driver’s license.

Education/Experience/Requirements:

  • High school diploma with experience in new construction buildings, grounds, parks/playscapes, equipment maintenance and operations preferred

  • One year of comparable experience preferred but not required

Physical Demands:

  • This position requires the ability to work outside in all weather conditions. Must be able to occasionally lift to 75 pounds, walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time.

Equipment Operated:

  • Must be able to operate a tractor, lawn mower, chainsaws, utility vehicles and other construction equipment

  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications, Google, and the operation of general office equipment.
