Field Installer Apprentice

Position Summary:

We are looking for a dependable, hands-on Field Installer Apprentice to join our installation team. This position assists experienced installers with the delivery and installation of commercial casework, cabinets, countertops, and related millwork at job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced installers with installing commercial casework, cabinets, countertops, and millwork.

  • Load, unload, transport, and safely handle casework and installation materials.

  • Read and follow basic drawings, plans, and installation instructions.

  • Learn to measure, lay out, level, plumb, shim, and securely fasten cabinets and casework.

  • Use hand and power tools safely and properly.

  • Assist with scribing, trimming, fitting, and adjusting cabinets to existing conditions.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Protect finished surfaces and surrounding areas during installation.

  • Communicate professionally with installers, supervisors, contractors, and customers.

  • Follow company safety policies and job-site requirements.

  • Travel to various commercial construction sites as required.

Qualifications

  • Previous construction, carpentry, cabinet installation, or general labor experience is helpful but not required.

  • Willingness to learn the casework installation trade.

  • Comfortable working with hand and power tools.

  • Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic measurements.

  • Good mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.

  • Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.

  • Ability to lift and maneuver casework and materials, sometimes weighing 50+ pounds.

  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in active construction environments.

Ideal Candidate

  • The ideal apprentice doesn't necessarily need years of construction experience. We're looking for someone who is reliable, mechanically inclined, willing to learn, takes pride in their work, and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty.

  • A background in construction, woodworking, remodeling, carpentry, cabinetmaking, or even experience working with tools at home can be a strong starting point.

  • The goal of the apprenticeship is to develop the employee into a capable Field Installer who can eventually perform casework installations independently.

Compensation

$22.25–$30.25/hour

Dena Koehn

Dena Koehn grew up in Rose City, a rural town in mid-Michigan, and moved to southern Michigan to attend Adrian College. She graduated in 2005 with a BFA in Studio Art and a BA in English. After school, she worked in marketing and sales. In 2016 Dena started teaching woodworking classes with Luke in a garage, which eventually became the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute. She has served many roles at the SBWI, including Outreach Coordinator, Shaker Box Instructor, Secretary, Treasurer, Board Member, Bookkeeper, and now Director of Operations. She is also the Event Coordinator and Social Media Director of the Great Lakes Woodworking Festival, an annual event which brings together the best woodworkers from the Great Lakes region.
