American Association of Woodturners

The American Association of Woodturners (AAW) wants to help you enrich your woodturning experience and pursue your aspirations wherever you are on your woodturning journey. We invite you to learn and grow with us and become part of the special community of woodturning. There are many services and publications available to AAW members. Our offerings are continuously evolving and expanding to meet the changing needs of AAW members. AAW members can see past articles, videos, and more on our website, receive weekly email newsletters, join the AAW Member Forum, and be part of the woodturning community of over 13,000 members. AAW members can choose between receiving the print version of American Woodturning Journal (6 issues per year) and the AAW website, or join as a digital member, with website access only.

What is the AAW?

The American Association of Woodturners (AAW) is a Minnesota nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, headquartered in Saint Paul, Minnesota, dedicated to advancing the art and craft of woodturning worldwide by providing opportunities for education, information, and organization to those interested in turning wood. Established in 1986, AAW currently has more than 16,000 members and a network of over 365 local chapters globally representing professionals, amateurs, gallery owners, collectors, and wood/tool suppliers. AAW’s award-winning journal, American Woodturner is the foremost publication on the art and craft of woodturning in the world.

Dena Koehn

Dena Koehn grew up in Rose City, a rural town in mid-Michigan, and moved to southern Michigan to attend Adrian College. She graduated in 2005 with a BFA in Studio Art and a BA in English. After school, she worked in marketing and sales. In 2016 Dena started teaching woodworking classes with Luke in a garage, which eventually became the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute. She has served many roles at the SBWI, including Outreach Coordinator, Shaker Box Instructor, Secretary, Treasurer, Board Member, Bookkeeper, and now Director of Operations. She is also the Event Coordinator and Social Media Director of the Great Lakes Woodworking Festival, an annual event which brings together the best woodworkers from the Great Lakes region.
