When It Rains, It Pours

When it rains, it pours. After a couple years of no boat activity in the sawdust factory I now have more on my plate than I can say grace over. I got a call yesterday with an invitation from the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute in Adrian, Mi. to show some of my work in a new exhibit "Veterans Woodworking". The exhibit will be in the gallery of the Adrian Center for the Arts and will run from October 17 to November 19, 2023. The canoe to the left is my "keeper canoe", a 15' Prospector Ranger made of paulownia in the hull and trimmed in black cherry. I will enter this boat and some of the paddles I have made in the show. I don't know how extensive the show will be but I will get pictures to show on this page.

"Canoe Mike" Thomsen

Michael Thomsen of Tecumseh, Michigan built his first canoe because he wanted a small, easily handled boat to fish from. It turned out so nice he knew he had to build more. “Canoe Mike” has now retired from his day job as an electrician and devotes all his time to building boats and paddles. He makes wooden canoes using the wood strip and fiberglass method. He buys the caned seats and brass hardware for the boats, but hand makes all the other components of the boat. He also makes wooden canoe and kayak paddles.
