Windy City Woodturners Club

The Windy City Woodturners Club provides a forum for sharing, learning, fellowship, and service. Our primary objective is to assist members in continuously improving their knowledge and abilities in woodturning.

Our club started as the Suburban Woodturners in 1998. The club changed its name to the Windy City Woodturners in 2002 to clarify our identity and to more closely align ourselves with our home city of Chicago. The club was initially created and led by a small group of individuals who were also members of the Chicago Woodturners. The new club was created to provide a more familial fellowship and to meet at a location nearer their homes in the south and west suburbs of Chicagoland.

The club was chartered as the 128th local chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. There are currently over 350 independent local chapters of the AAW.

Monthly meetings were initially held at the Woodcraft store located in Hickory Hills, IL. Upon the store's closing in 2000 our meetings floated until a new home in Downers Grove was found in 2001. In 2013 with over 70 members, the club moved once again to Lisle to accommodate our growing membership. In 2020 when CoVid happened, our in person meetings were not possible so we adapted and went to a virtual format. By the end of 2021 the park district informed us that they had repurposed our space and we were on the search for a new home. In April of 2022, after an extensive search the club found a new home with plenty of room to grow at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 1313 N. Mill Street, Naperville, IL.

If you are a new wood turner or an experienced wood turner you will find something of interest in our club.
