Introduction to Woodturning
2 Days: Saturday-Sunday
Tuition: $325
Ages: 16 & Up
Instructor: Shane Mooney & Peter Densmore
Instructional Delivery Method(s): In person
Prerequisites: None
Program Level: Beginner, Intermediate
Program Description:
We all have some piece of artwork or a special photo in storage awaiting a frame to display and protect it. But the cost of quality framing is high, and with cheap pre-made frames you get the cheapness that you pay for. Maybe you've had the thought that one day you'd like to learn to make them yourself.
In this two-day class you will learn the complete process of building a custom picture frame. Over two days, you'll mill a hardwood mitered frame, fit a custom mat, and even cut glass.
Interior frame dimensions must be 30" or less on any side. Wood species available include Cherry and Maple with an upcharge for Walnut.
Various profile bits will be available for frame edges, including chamfers, roundovers, cove and bead, and ogee. Matting is optional, and will be available in black with white core and white with black core with a beveled opening.
You can also bring your own mat. Semi-permanent glazier points and swivel backing clips will be provided to hold artwork in.
Wire hangers and sawtooth hangers will be provided for mounting. Oil, wax, and film finishes will be available and their application will be explained.
