Carpenters Combine Hiring Event Coming to New SBWI Campus Construction Site July 22

Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters, Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute, and Krieghoff-Lenawee to host hands-on hiring event focused on wood construction, heavy timber, and mass timber careers

ADRIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters, Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute, and Krieghoff-Lenawee will host a Carpenters Combine hiring event on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the construction site of the new SBWI campus, located at 5201 Forrister Road in Adrian Township, Michigan.

Modeled after the NFL Combine, the Carpenters Combine gives aspiring carpenters the opportunity to demonstrate their skills through a series of hands-on events designed to test ability, work ethic, problem-solving, and readiness for the jobsite. Contractors will be on site throughout the event and may offer jobs to select candidates on the spot.

Check-in begins at 7:00 a.m., with events starting at approximately 7:30 a.m. The event is open to both union and non-union participants. Candidates should arrive ready to work. Participants can register in advance at: nmrcc.link/hepr

This special Carpenters Combine will focus on wood construction, including heavy timber, traditional timber framing, and mass timber skills. SBWI is working with the Carpenters Union to design event stations that reflect the growing demand for carpenters trained in timber framing, heavy timber, and mass timber construction.

Krieghoff-Lenawee is specifically seeking carpenters to help construct SBWI’s new timber frame school, a major educational project designed to expand skilled trades training in Adrian Township. Several additional contractors looking to hire will also be in attendance.

“This event brings the hiring process directly to the jobsite and gives aspiring carpenters a chance to prove what they can do with their hands,” said Luke Barnett, President of the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute. “SBWI’s new campus is being built around the future of wood construction, and we are proud to partner with the Carpenters Union and Krieghoff-Lenawee to connect motivated people with real career opportunities.”

“The construction of SBWI’s new timber frame school is a unique project that requires skilled, hardworking carpenters who are excited about wood construction,” said Jason Hess of Krieghoff-Lenawee. “We are looking for the right candidates who are ready to join our team and begin work right away.”

“The Carpenters Combine is about removing barriers and giving people a hands-on opportunity to show their skill, drive, and attitude,” said Tom Lutz, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Northern Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters. “Whether someone is already experienced or just looking for the right path into the trades, this event can open the door to a family-supporting career in the construction industry.”

The Carpenters Combine is designed for individuals interested in starting or advancing a career in carpentry. Participants will move through a series of skill-based challenges while contractors observe their performance. The right candidates may leave the event with a job offer and a pathway into immediate work.
