How Much Does Woodworking School Cost & What’s Included?
The tuition for the Wood Design program is: $16,165.
This includes all instruction throughout the nine-month program, all learning materials like books, readings, and lectures which are provided in the student portal, and hardware and wood allowances for student projects. It also includes a one-year subscription to SketchUp, or similar design software.
It does not include our Hand Tools list, which students are required to have before class. The total cost of buying these tools new runs $3,300-$3,500. Discounts are available when purchasing through:
Do my tools have to be new?
No. But they should be high quality. If you have your grandfather’s high-quality hand planer, that’s great. You can also check out the Chairmakers Toolbox, where you can apply to receive hand tools that are donated by makers with the purpose of being passed down to the next generation.
Your tools are your property and you will take them with you after graduation. So in total, plan to spend $19,500 for tuition and tools.

Funding Your Education: A Few FAQs
Can I work during the program?
Our program is a minimum of 24 hours/week split between instruction and lab time. The more time you spend in the woodshop, the faster you will progress, and the better prepared you will be to achieve your goals upon graduation. Your nine months with us will fly by, so we encourage students to immerse themselves in learning and developing with their cohort. If necessary, some part-time work is available for students in town to earn money and offset their living expenses.
Are scholarships available?
Yes. We can help you apply for scholarships and we have a curated list of over twenty scholarships right here.
Do you accept the GI Bill and Veterans Benefits?
Yes. We are a Gold Level veteran-friendly school. We enroll and employ veterans returning to civilian life. Read more about how to use the GI bill for woodworking school or watch an interview with a successful graduate of our program and valued instructor Steve McCarroll.
Can I get on a payment plan?
Yes. Instead of paying half up front and half at completion, you can pay monthly. Finance charges apply for credit and debit cards.
Can I use student loans?
We do not accept traditional student loans like Sallie Mae or a Pell Grant because of the heavy administrative burden on our end. Students have found success using private loans through a bank or a credit union.
Can I use my 529 account?
Yes.
