Program Description:
Build two different styles of stools in six days. This is a hand tool-intensive class where students will primarily use hand tools to shape the components of their stools.
The first half of the class will be dedicated to building the Windsor style Hearth Stool designed by Shea Alexander.
We will start with mortising for the legs then shaping the seat. After, we'll shape the legs and stretchers to achieve a hand tool finish.
The last half of the class we will build a post & rung style bar stool designed by Zack Fealk and weave the seat with Shaker tape. All of these components can be shaped with hand tools, but there will be an option to use a lathe to turn parts if you feel proficient on the lathe. The seat will be woven with Shaker tape. We will email you asking what color Shaker tape you'd like to use a few weeks before class.
